MAV/PLVN Public Libraries Summit

150 local government and public library reps attended the MAV/PLVN Public Library summit held at the Windsor Hotel on Friday 20TH November. Following opening remarks by the MAV President, Cr Bill McArthur, the Minister for Local Government talked about the funding realities into the future, the MAC vision was presented by Joanne Duncan, MAC Chair. Frank McGuire talked about the philosophy behind the Hume Global learning Village concept (Attitude, employment and opportunity).Other presentations included the Great Public library Tour, current initiatives and  statewide projects already underway in Victoria. Central Highlands RLC argued the case strongly for a better deal from the State Government.
The MAV are looking to develop a collaborative agreement with the State government around how each party will work on the complex issues concerning future service delivery and sustainability. One of the main purposes of the day was to bring councillors and officers up to speed on industry developments and to set direction for the future. I hope that the day delivered!
